I will be talking about what I know about the Ethiopian custom of gursha (ጉርሻ). Gursha is a food tradition in Ethiopia, which is quite unlike what someone may experience somewhere like Australia or the United Kingdom. Traditionally, Ethiopian food consists of a flatbread called injera (እንጀራ), along with arrays of different stews etc, which are often eaten with the right hand (assumingly because left hand is considered dirty) by scooping up food using injera. Gursha is when you take food in your right hand and you feed it to someone else, as a sign of friendship.

If you are from Ethiopia, feel free to tell me what you think of this post! Does the concept or gursha exist in other languages spoken in Ethiopia, or is it just an Amharic language concept?
